Alyx Hilshey is a full time, working magician who has recently taken the magic world by storm. After 14 years of honing her chops as a street performer, she moved inside, performing at magic venues including The Chicago Magic Lounge, Philadelphia’s Smoke and Mirrors Theater, and the The Magic Castle. She was a regular guest co-star in Washington DC’s highest rated comedy show, The Magic Duel, and she appeared on Season 11 of Penn & Teller: Fool Us.

After spending two years as a resident theme park magician, she now primarily works as a family entertainer with a growing business in the corporate market. She has lectured all across the USA and this will be her debut lecture in Canada.

She will discuss street magician tactics and how they can be applied to indoor or festival/fair magic. She will also talk about misdirection techniques including using the body and the gaze. Plus she will give tips for using social media to become a better performer and to propel your career.

Routines may include:

  • Wand and Coin Opener – A coin choreography and a twist on the flip stick – Alyx’s opener honed in over 1500 street shows and used in every stand up show she performs.
  • Fork Bending – Alyx’s signature effect which she uses on the street, on stage, in strolling, and close up work. This will cover routining, subtleties, techniques, playing big, and creating an amazing gift.
  • Bill in Kiwi – A devastatingly deceptive bill in kiwi for the street & a variation for stage
  • Card Manip Opener – A simple card manipulation sequence to introduce any card routine. Alyx uses this in almost every show and close up.
  • Strolling Coins – A double whammy ending that will knock their socks off
  • Street Apron (Gibeciere) techniques that actually fool people.
  • Hero Smart B*tt - This is a variation on Bill Abbott’s Celebrity Smart @$$ for library or school show audiences
  • Alyx’s Hat – Alyx’s take on Ramsay’s Men w/ hats and Reed McClintock’s Men without Hats. This is the version of Alyx’s Fool Us Act that she wanted to perform. She teaches a great hold out for large Malini hat loads, that for some, could be worth the admission.
  • Street Cups and Balls - Alyx will perform a cups routine that she has performed close to 2000 times on the street and a few hundred times inside. Alyx has performed various versions of the cups and balls for 32 years, and she’s only 38. She’ll discuss a variation on the Mora/Vernon wand spin.
